Oh my goodness. I don’t know about you, but it’s getting hot where I live! I started to sweat unloading the groceries from my trunk on Tuesday. No fun!
With all the heat, I simplify my summer makeup routine to reduce any face melting. You know what I’m talking about. Too much makeup starts to slide off my face the moment I walk outside. So here’s what I do to keep my skin healthy and fresh all day long:
Step 1: Moisturize
I know this step seems antithetical, but it’s not! Moisturizer helps balance out the pH levels and oils in your face. So adding a dab of moisturizer is a must! I’ve recently switch to a lotion for combination/oily skin and seen great results.
(Remember not to put moisturizer under your eyes. This thin skin will soak up the moisture and puff up, giving you more pronounced bags under your eyes. Yikes!)
Step 2: Protect
Sun is the number one damager of skin. So you need to protect it! I know a lot of moisturizers have built-in sunscreen, but they’re usually only 15 SPF. So I double up with this day solution which has 35 SPF.
Step 3: Conceal
This is a step I cannot skip. No matter how much I sleep or how much water I drink, I have pronounced bags under my eyes. For a lot of summer days out, this is all I do.
Here’s a tip for blending in your concealer: Dab three dots in a triangle on your skin, like I’ve done above, and blend with one of you last three fingers. Placing the color in a triangle makes the color blend naturally into your skin. And using one of the weaker fingers protects the thin skin under the eyes.
Step 4: Foundation (optional)
So most days, I skip this step. Foundation is the part that starts to slip and slide. When I want to class it up for church or for a date (which I was going out on that night!), I add a touch of powder foundation. Or, when I need some extra protection, I’ll dab on a little CC cream (or tinted moisturizer) that has 15 SPF. But I reserve this for days spent in the convertible or on the bleachers at the Indy 500 ;).
Step 5: Eyes
What I do depends on the day, but I almost always use eyeshadow and mascara. I love cream eyeshadow for the summer. I rub the tiniest amount on and it stays in place for the day. They’re becoming more popular and easier to find. On days that I dress it up, I add a little eyeliner on my upper lid. (Eyeliner on the bottom lids melt in the heat.) And voila!
I’m ready to go out!
I had so much fun taking the photos after finishing up my makeup. In fact, I think they may be my new headshot! So not only is my summer makeup routine simple, it’s also pretty… What do you think?
Do you change up your makeup routine for the summer? What steps do you add or subtract? I’d love to hear from you!
