Adventures and Victories Week 10

It's been a fun week of breaks and travel. The Monday off for Martin Luther King's day was wonderful, but it threw my entire week off... Well, that and the 6-hour drive up to Detroit on Tuesday, which leads me to this week's adventures and victories! Fun Adventure: We drove up to Detroit to attend the North American International Auto Show. You should see the crazy displays these car companies set up, it's pretty incredible. We got to check out the new GMC Acadia, the Chevy Bolt, and of course all the Corvettes we could find :) Mini Victory: After finishing off one afghan, I plotted a new pattern for the next blanket and began. I'm basing this one off a [...]

Adventures and Victories Week 9

Hi everyone! How are you doing this fine Friday? It's been a busy week for me, but a good one. If you're a regular reader, you'll know that I'm ramping up for the launch of Sketchy Tacos--my YA travel novel that will be released on February 7. I am beginning my SHOUTING FROM THE ROOFTOP phase. Because I'm super excited... so excited that I might have gone a little overboard on the creation of merchandise front--not to sell, just for me :). Be sure to check out my Instagram page. They can print on all sorts of things now. It's pretty cool. Vicarious Adventure: This week I've really been enjoying There You'll Find Me by Jenny B. Jones. It's been a [...]

Discover Amsterdam: Tips to Travel Europe Part 6

So we picked a bad day to visit Amsterdam for one reason: the marathon. We spent over an hour trying to get to our parking spot, but it simply could not be done. So we finally gave up and picked a random spot to park, which is how we learned that parking is free on Sundays. We walked around aimlessly until we found a jam-packed brunch spot. (This is my husband #2 trick to find a great restaurant while traveling: Look for a crowd. His #1 is checking Trip Advisor.) My trick for finding the best food? Ask the waitress. This is what she gave me. I've now discovered the were a type of Dutch doughnut called an Oliebollen, topped [...]

Adventures and Victories Week 8

Happy new year everyone! Can you believe it's 2017? I don't know about you, but I'm pretty stoked for this year. I've got some big plans, the first of which is launching my YA travel novel, Sketchy Tacos, on February 7--almost one month away! I could not be more excited... I may have even made my entire family sweat shirts with the book cover. Just sayin'. Well, enough about future adventures and victories! On to this week: Victory: I finished my first draft of the International Adventures Book 2 outline. Currently titled Saucy Schnitzel... maybe? Seriously I would love name suggestions. (Adjective preferably ending in a Y) + (some kind of traditionally German food)??? No idea. Adventure: I'm trying Medium for the [...]

Step Outside Your Comfort Zone

So the 12-days in Europe backpacking extravaganza (check out my posts on Munich, Venice, Sienna, and Rome Part 1 or Part 2) is the thing daydreams are made of. What you may not know is that this was our vacation in the midst of a 10-week assignment in Europe for my husband's job. Being the writer/blogger/editor that I am, I stepped outside my Indiana comfort zone and tagged along for the entire trip. Now, I understand that 10 weeks in Europe sounds gloriously adventurous--and it is in many ways. But it's a whole other animal when you're there to work. There was one stretch of four days where I never left the hotel. Not kidding. Not even to eat. I had peanut [...]

Adventures and Victories Week 7

How was everyone's Christmas? We had a lovely time with family! We ate lots of good food, played games, chatted, and generally had loads of fun! This year we've added another minister to the family, so most our traditions got a bit shook up. What's your favorite transition? Victory: I managed to stay stress-free during the holidays. Between crazy schedules and unforeseen sickness, it was at times a bit mad, but I kept my calm all the way through. Adventure: I got an amazing new game called Viticulture! I'd played it once with friends 8+ months back, so I had to relearn it from scratch. It is one of the most games I've played in a long time and it's [...]

Adventures and Victories Week 6

Hi everyone! Can you believe Christmas is tomorrow?! I really can't. It does not seem real. Maybe because this year we didn't set up a tree--long story. But I'm looking forward to spending time with family... and my mom's fudge. Yum! What are you most looking forward to about Christmas this year?  Ongoing Adventure: I've been working on the outline for Sketchy Tacos 2. It's taking longer than I'd hoped with the holiday craziness, but yesterday, I started getting all 100+ index cards into story form. It felt really good. I'm getting super excited about it! Mini-Victory: I survived my last minute Christmas shopping experience. I've never been in the last minute Christmas shopping crowd before and it was nuts! With the [...]

Put the Writer’s Brain to Rest in 10 Minutes or Less

There's nothing I love more than those flurried minutes or hours of incredible inspiration. The light bulb clicks on, a problem you've had comes into sharp focus, and you just go. I think, as writers, we live for those moments. They're an imaginational high that we keep coming back to again and again. But how do we put our writer's brain to rest after those crazy heady moments? I know I tend to be wound tighter than a spring after inspiration strikes, which is particularly unfortunate as my inspiration fairy likes to wave her magic wand late at night. I've tried so many different ways of unwinding, and for a long time I would turn to a book or a game [...]

Adventures and Victories Week 5

Hello! And welcome back to Adventures and Victories Week 5! I can't believe we're already five weeks into this little experiment on the adventurous mindset. And guess what? It's working! Looking for the little things in my day and realizing that they're adventures and victories instead of just little checks off my list has made a huge difference in my attitude and my mood. Have you tried it out yet? Adventure: I'm taking a new course: List Surge by Melissa Griffin. Man, this course is kicking my butt! It's taking a lot of time to implement the suggestions she makes in this course, but I can already see a difference! Victory: This week's post 25 Goals First Quarter Update and [...]

25 Goals: First Quarter Update + “Rock Your 2017 Goals” Workbook

Three months since I set my 25 goals. How crazy is that? I've managed to cross off 7 of the 25 goals, and I've made a sizable dent in a few of the others. I'm starting to feel like the ones I have left are pretty difficult. But then again, what kind of goal would it be if it didn't push me out of my comfort zone? Have you begun working on your goals for 2017 yet? I've created this awesome Rock Your 2017 Goals workbook to help you plan and accomplish your goals this coming year.
