There are so many good books. So I’m sharing some of the best!

Sketchy Tacos Launch Day Celebration!

I can't believe launch day for Sketchy Tacos is finally here! I'm beyond excited!!! It's been a long and incredible journey, and I have so many people to thank for this day--which is a dream come true. Almost 4 years ago, I won the Hutton Honors College's Creative Activity Grant, which provided this poor little college girl with the funds I needed to travel Mexico to research this book. In the summer of 2013, I wrote the first draft of Sketchy Tacos. My aunt Sara Grant was writing a draft of her own at the time and we traded manuscripts every two weeks to get fresh eyes and feed back. For the next two years, I edited and rewrote Sketchy [...]

Adventures and Victories Week 12

Hold on a second, how did it get to be February?!?! I had months to prepare for the Sketchy Tacos book launch and now it's in four days! Where did all my time go? Anyone else have a similar feeling? Tactile Adventure: This week has been a little nutty on the crocheting front. For a couple weeks now I have had the insatiable urge to MAKE ALL THE PROJECTS. So while 2/3 through one project and halfway through another, I started and finished a third random project. I think I currently have crocheting ADHD. I have now managed to wrap up 2 out of the 3 projects (kind of... there was a running out of yarn issue), and I've designed [...]

Adventures and Victories Week 11

Another crazy week under my belt in this new year. Tell me, is the weather as crazy where you are as it is here? We’ve been rocketing back and forth between 30 and 60 degrees since Christmas. My poor head is begging for a stable climate! Oh well. On to this week’s adventures and victories. Minor Victory: I created a new bullet journal design for my daily page. It's simpler and so much faster to create. I love making fancy pages when I have time, but too often I don't. I'm loving this new super simple page since it works the exactly the same as my fancier page. If you're interested in bullet journals--which I love because I can track my ENTIRE [...]

Adventures and Victories Week 10

It's been a fun week of breaks and travel. The Monday off for Martin Luther King's day was wonderful, but it threw my entire week off... Well, that and the 6-hour drive up to Detroit on Tuesday, which leads me to this week's adventures and victories! Fun Adventure: We drove up to Detroit to attend the North American International Auto Show. You should see the crazy displays these car companies set up, it's pretty incredible. We got to check out the new GMC Acadia, the Chevy Bolt, and of course all the Corvettes we could find :) Mini Victory: After finishing off one afghan, I plotted a new pattern for the next blanket and began. I'm basing this one off a [...]

Adventures and Victories Week 9

Hi everyone! How are you doing this fine Friday? It's been a busy week for me, but a good one. If you're a regular reader, you'll know that I'm ramping up for the launch of Sketchy Tacos--my YA travel novel that will be released on February 7. I am beginning my SHOUTING FROM THE ROOFTOP phase. Because I'm super excited... so excited that I might have gone a little overboard on the creation of merchandise front--not to sell, just for me :). Be sure to check out my Instagram page. They can print on all sorts of things now. It's pretty cool. Vicarious Adventure: This week I've really been enjoying There You'll Find Me by Jenny B. Jones. It's been a [...]

Adventures and Victories Week 5

Hello! And welcome back to Adventures and Victories Week 5! I can't believe we're already five weeks into this little experiment on the adventurous mindset. And guess what? It's working! Looking for the little things in my day and realizing that they're adventures and victories instead of just little checks off my list has made a huge difference in my attitude and my mood. Have you tried it out yet? Adventure: I'm taking a new course: List Surge by Melissa Griffin. Man, this course is kicking my butt! It's taking a lot of time to implement the suggestions she makes in this course, but I can already see a difference! Victory: This week's post 25 Goals First Quarter Update and [...]

25 Goals: First Quarter Update + “Rock Your 2017 Goals” Workbook

Three months since I set my 25 goals. How crazy is that? I've managed to cross off 7 of the 25 goals, and I've made a sizable dent in a few of the others. I'm starting to feel like the ones I have left are pretty difficult. But then again, what kind of goal would it be if it didn't push me out of my comfort zone? Have you begun working on your goals for 2017 yet? I've created this awesome Rock Your 2017 Goals workbook to help you plan and accomplish your goals this coming year. Adventures & Victories: Week 2

My time in Europe is drawing to a close. I've loved being here so when I think about it too much, I start to get a little melancholy. So instead, I've chosen to think about all the adventures & victories I'm looking forward to at home: home-cooked meals, laundry in my own house, and no longer living out of a suitcase. Even more than that, I can't wait to see my family, friends, and of course my little pug, Pascal. God has blessed me with a great life, and I get to go back to it. There's nothing sad about that! Adventure: I got to go to Neuschwanstein Castle, otherwise known as Cinderella's castle. It was set against the background of snowy [...]

Who I Am: Writer

My site and my attitude have been undergoing some changes. Thanks to some lessons by Tim Grahl and Chris Guillebeau, I got a new perspective and new lease on life. That's right, on life. Not just on my blog. I've taken a serious look at who I am and what my goals are. And you know what? They haven't matching my actions. I'm changing that starting today by revealing something very dear to my heart that I've barely touched upon in this blog. Confession: I am 25, and I've been a novelist for 11 years. This is when people start to look at me funny at writer's conferences. I am too young to have so much experience tucked under my belt, [...]
