Adventures and Victories Week 12

Hold on a second, how did it get to be February?!?! I had months to prepare for the Sketchy Tacos book launch and now it's in four days! Where did all my time go? Anyone else have a similar feeling? Tactile Adventure: This week has been a little nutty on the crocheting front. For a couple weeks now I have had the insatiable urge to MAKE ALL THE PROJECTS. So while 2/3 through one project and halfway through another, I started and finished a third random project. I think I currently have crocheting ADHD. I have now managed to wrap up 2 out of the 3 projects (kind of... there was a running out of yarn issue), and I've designed [...]

Adventures and Victories Week 11

Another crazy week under my belt in this new year. Tell me, is the weather as crazy where you are as it is here? We’ve been rocketing back and forth between 30 and 60 degrees since Christmas. My poor head is begging for a stable climate! Oh well. On to this week’s adventures and victories. Minor Victory: I created a new bullet journal design for my daily page. It's simpler and so much faster to create. I love making fancy pages when I have time, but too often I don't. I'm loving this new super simple page since it works the exactly the same as my fancier page. If you're interested in bullet journals--which I love because I can track my ENTIRE [...]

Back to the Basics: Rediscovering My Love of Blogging

Hello lovely people. I have just returned from a bout of crazy busyness. And I'll admit right now, when times are tough, my blog is one of the first things to go because I've forgotten why I got into this in the first place. I've gotten too busy with editorial calendars and trying to make every post fit into a certain category, that I've forgotten to just talk to you.So today, I'm going back to the basics. I'll tell you my story and what's going on in my life, in the hopes that maybe you'll share a little of your life with me too. Two weeks ago, I went to Hawaii with my grandmother. She's been wanting to go her whole [...]

Cute Hairstyles for Busy Women

I don't know about you, but I need my hair up in this heat if I'm going to walk outside. However, throwing up my hair into a ponytail doesn't do it for me because the humidity takes all my little frizzies and gives them the volume I can't buy. So I want to let you in on my personal favorite and lifesaver hairstyle. It takes all of two minutes and looks just as good with dirty hair as it does clean. All you need is a clip and a hair band. I call it The Belle Ponytail after my favorite Disney princess. (Is anyone else excited that Emma Watson is playing Belle in the new live-action Beauty and the Beast?!) [...]

5-Step Summer Makeup Routine

Oh my goodness. I don't know about you, but it's getting hot where I live! I started to sweat unloading the groceries from my trunk on Tuesday. No fun! With all the heat, I simplify my summer makeup routine to reduce any face melting. You know what I'm talking about. Too much makeup starts to slide off my face the moment I walk outside. So here's what I do to keep my skin healthy and fresh all day long: Step 1: Moisturize I know this step seems antithetical, but it's not! Moisturizer helps balance out the pH levels and oils in your face. So adding a dab of moisturizer is a must! I've recently switch to a lotion for combination/oily [...]

My Brief Stint as a Mary Kay Sales Rep (and What I Learned)

For those of you who may not remember, back in November, I did a post about how excited I was to become a Mary Kay sales rep. I was thrilled to earn some extra money on the side by playing with something that I love: makeup. That honeymoon period lasted all of a month... after I had sunk about $2300 into my "business." All of the sudden, I was at the whim of everybody and their sister. One of the big sellers on the MK rep lifestyle is that you get to spend more time with your loved ones. This did not turn out to be true, because everyone that had money to spend on good makeup worked a 9 [...]

My Mary Kay Experience

A funny thing happened on the way to my hotel room. Across the hall from me, the door was open, and I could see tables with white cloths, like it was set up for a meeting. I'm curious by nature, so I invented a reason to leave my room and see what on earth was going on. While walking back, I found myself face to face with a woman who asked me what I was up to that evening. When I said, "Not much." She invited me to a Mary Kay makeover night. As I had over an hour to kill and more than a week with little human contact, I thought why not? And so began my Mary Kay [...]

4 Tips to Fight Caffeine Withdrawal (Without Giving It Up)

When I worked at Author Solutions, I was in the office by 7:00 a.m. I am historically a night owl. In college, I managed to have only one 8:00 a.m. class in my entire four years and I hated it! So my new start time was quite a shock to the system. To combat that drowsiness, I mainlined black tea and sometime not-so-black coffee from 6:30 to the end of the workday (that boring desk job required all the caffeine I could find to just stay awake). The problem, then, was the weekends. I would wake up at 10:30 with a roaring headache because by body was used to having four hours worth of caffeine pumped into it at that [...]
