The Importance of Dreaming Big

Originally published as a guest post on Talk Less, Say More. “I want to be a doctor, a ballerina, and a house-builder.” At my kindergarten graduation, this was my answer to the question “What do you want to be when you grow up?” As kids, we know how to dream big, don’t we? But it seems like somewhere along the way between high school and college and needing a job that will pay the rent, we seem to forget those big dream. Instead of setting our eyes on the horizon, we set our eyes on the weekend to the time when we can binge-watch our current Netflix obsession. Don’t get me wrong, we need time to relax and unwind. But [...]

An Inside Scoop on Sketchy Tacos: My Year in Mexico

My YA travel novel, Sketchy Tacos, has been four years in the making, and it's now available for pre-order on Amazon. I could not be more excited! In honor of Sketchy Tacos' release next week, I want to share with you about the year I spent in Mexico. Get the inside scoop on the story behind the novel! I married my husband, Alan, on May 11, 2013, and the next day we traveled to Mexico. We spent a four days at Secret's Silver Sands halfway between Cancun and Playa del Carmen. It really was a slice of paradise. It was the perfect getaway for our honeymoon since we had a short time and just wanted to enjoy each other and relax. [...]

25 Goals for My 25th Year

I loved setting high goals for myself last year. Having those goals out there for everyone to see continually pushed me out of my comfort zone. At times, I felt a little vulnerable, but I grew so much and had a fantastic time doing it. I loved having a whole year because this allows me to make some bigger goals and strive to set habits instead of one-offs. So this year I'm back with new categories and new heights to stretch myself for another stellar year! 1. Become a regular at a local cafe or lunch spot in Marburg, Germany. 2. Be serenaded on the canals in Venice, Italy. 3. Visit the Colosseum in Rome, Italy. 4. Munch on a pretzel [...]

Pursuing Your Passions

In a month from today, we will all be setting resolutions. These resolutions are based on our dreams, on our passions, on our heart's desires, but how often do those promises fizzle out and die in the first months. Why is that? Is it because we lose our passions? I think not. I am determined to find the root cause so nothing will hold me back in 2016 and beyond. Are you ready to wholeheartedly begin pursuing your passions? Here are a few things that I am passionate about: Writing novels. I truly believe that fiction can change the world one life at a time. Fiction has made me see some many things in a new light and helped me [...]

Let God Dream for You

I rediscovered this song this morning and I just had to share. I know many of you are getting ready to start up school this month or maybe there's another situation where you don't exactly know how it's going to turn out. It can be scary. And I know my first instinct is to worry. But really, who does that help? You may or may not know that I am a writer. Well, this week I just sent out my last proposal to an agent... and I nearly started hyperventilating. The moment I hit send, it was out of my hands. And I didn't like that, because I like to be in control. Many of you will be facing similar [...]

Waiting for the Call

Telephone Series II by Sergio Ianni   In ninth grade I was dead set on majoring in musical theater and becoming a Broadway star. I loved acting and singing and had some talent. I took classes on the weekend and after school. I participated in every play I could find an audition for. I thought, this is my calling. This is what I'm meant to do with my life. Then I met a boy. I realized that living like a nomad meant I couldn't settle down. Having to keep my body perfect for the stage ruled out kids. To top it all off, the new musicals being produced were getting raunchier and raunchier. So I let go of [...]
