Who I Am: Writer

Who I Am: Writer
My site and my attitude have been undergoing some changes. Thanks to some lessons by Tim Grahl and Chris Guillebeau, I got a new perspective and new lease on life. That’s right, on life. Not just on my blog.

I’ve taken a serious look at who I am and what my goals are. And you know what? They haven’t matching my actions. I’m changing that starting today by revealing something very dear to my heart that I’ve barely touched upon in this blog.

I am 25, and I’ve been a novelist for 11 years.

This is when people start to look at me funny at writer’s conferences. I am too young to have so much experience tucked under my belt, their raised eyebrows seem to say. Well, I’ve never been one for normal.

I co-authored my first short-story with my aunt at the ripe old age of 8. By age 14, I began my first novel. (It won’t ever see the light of day, so don’t even ask 😉 ) At this point, I was already reading every novel I could get my hands on and I consumed books on the craft of writing like there was no tomorrow.

At the same time, I discovered a love of travel and visited London, Paris, Berlin, and Stockholm. I watched TV shows featuring characters on every side of the law–FBI agents, thieves, grifters, spies, and more. And, I discovered a liking for jumping out of planes, walking high wires in the Redwood forest, and other such adrenaline rushes.

These two passions ignited a grand love affair with adventure novels. After graduating with a degree in Writing, Editing, and Publishing and living in Mexico for a year, I began and left my first and only “real job” in 2014 to pursue my love of words full-time. And I couldn’t be happier.

Writing is so much a part of who I am. It’s a part of my everyday life, and I haven’t been sharing it with you. Well, no more. Starting now, I will also be blogging about writing–writing novels, short stories, maybe even non-fiction one day. I’m taking you on the journey with me, and I’ll be providing tools to help you grow as a writer–starting with a compilation of the best writer’s resources I’ve found in my 11 years of intensive research. Access it for FREE by signing up here or in any of the forms on this site. You’ll also receive access to an exclusive PDF library designed to help you live your most adventurous life.

Because a writer is not the only thing I am. Tune in next week to see “Who I Am: Adventurer” and learn more about my goal to help you find your adventure in your every day–be it through awesome books, your relationships, travel, jumping out of planes, or adding a little fun to laundry day.

I plan to change the world–one book, one writer, one adventure at a time. Who wants to join me?

Who are you? What is your driving passion? Introduce yourself in the comments below!

Love, Meg D. Gonzalez

This is great! I spent a lot of time latel getting back into my first love of writing and it’s so refreshing to be there again…I’m amazed at 11 years! Way to go! You’re never too young 🙂 (coming from the mom to teenagers who knows those looks.)

I love this! I wrote my first novel in 3rd grade and I lost it as I got older. Now I have to work on finishing a novel as an adult with way more distraction than a child. I love reading and writing so much too!

I remember those first stories! Even back then you had the soul of a writer and the tenacity to be a published author one day. Funnily enough I wrote my first short story when I was 8 years old too. So proud of you.
